Availability: made to order, up to 14 days "After years of experimenting with many different brands, gauges and tensions, I fell into the habit of alternating between gauge 12-59’s and 13-62’s strings. I found that string companies which allow you to purchase custom hand-made strings are extremely rare, and this is just one of the many reasons why I love Newtone Strings, and why I will never go back to mass-produced strings. I use gauge 12-59 strings when practicing, as this allows me to perform for longer periods of time whilst preventing injury (I’ve suffered from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in the past so I have to be quite careful). During live and studio performances I tend to switch to gauge 13’s so I can achieve a fuller sound. The low E and A string are thicker than your standard 12-52/ 13-56 strings. This creates a warm, powerful, bassy tone, and when combined with the round core, reduces the top end frequencies and adds more mid-range to the strings. This creates a very distinctive tone, which is much nicer than your average steel-string guitar sound." Available in the following gauges:

Heritage Series Acoustic 12 String

Availability: made to order, up to 14 days These strings are designed to have a reduced and virtually equal tension on each string. They are made with Phosphor Bronze wrap on Round cores with unique core-to-wrap ratios, so the gauges which match up with some of our standard sets are not the same at all! There are several advantages of using these strings. Vintage guitars, light braced guitars and people who have problems fretting due to arthritis or tendonitis can use these strings without worrying about twisting or uneven pulling on the bridge. Low tensions also mean ease of fretting.

“These tunings and gauges are low, round and rich and are the perfect marriage for my voice. They give the overall sound a dark, brooding quality whilst still ‘singing’ and being very playable.
The guitar is tuned to a low ‘B’ in standard tuning, but because I use banjo pegs there are a few tuning I use. Mostly: AEADEA”

They are super-heavy, especially for low tunings. I tune my guitar a tone below concert pitch, and quite often much lower than that. This brings out a warmth and character completely different to the usual twangy steel-string guitar tone. Or maybe if your voice has dropped in pitch over time, these strings could be the answer to your prayers! Django Series

Gypsy Jazz strings.

The Django series strings are designed with the bright jazz sound in mind. Although they were designed with this style of instrument and style of playing in mind, they suit any standard guitar if you are looking for a bright sounding, low tension set. If you are unfamiliar with Silver Plated Copper, it is much softer than PB or Nickel and will not as as long, but it has the unmistakable traditional sound! The gauges are updated for 2026 with many thanks to Remi Harris, Lewis Kilvington, Nuno Marinho & Robin Nolan for the feedback.
